wacky art
by:

ISH, London
Winter-Spring, 2004
I wasn't particularly sure who I was before I went to London. I'm still not. But living in London certainly made me aware of where I came from. Where you come from is a very big part of who you are and it seems that you never really know much about it until you leave. I was seeing things and meeting people that I never knew existed and it was a little bit of an overload for me at times. A very nice girl sent me a package and it had some watercolor paint, paper, and a goo ball.....so i gave it a shot. Years later these paintings are pretty much the most tangible thing i have to reliving what it was like to be there. I'd never really made art before and there i was preserving my imagination I quickly became addicted.
Cooper Landing Alaska
Summer, 2004
I was pretty arted up by the time I left london. Museums over there were free and we (fellow progressive artists and me) took advantage of it. We saw Da Vinci's and Monet's and Van Gogh's and Degas' and Sarah Lucas's on a daily basis. We pretty much lived art, the good and the bad, all sorts too theatre, and literature and music and beer...enough to make us a little goofy.
After London i got a summer Job at The Russian River Campground in Cooper Landing Alaska. It was amazing! I lived with best friends in one of the most beautiful places in the world. We lived in tents surrounded by mountains. There were bears and delicious salmon-fish everywhere. We didn't have much for "fine art" but who gives a damn we had rivers and wildlife and natural art and tourists. This is where I learned art was much more than a bunch of paint on paper. I wish I could've painted it.
We also got a free newspaper everyday.
College and Rogers, Stevens Point, Wi
Fall to spring, 2004-2005
The vacation was over and it was time to get back to school. I was happy because i missed my good friends. We all lived together in a little house on the corner. Little enough to make us all a little crazy...which lead to a lot of excitement. This was the Autumn of the election and we were all sick of GW's BS so i got a job for a voter advocacy group and knocked on people doors telling them to vote. Some people loved me some people didn't. After the election i was sad and went and worked at subway.
It was an educational year.
Carroll Street, Madison,
Summer 2005
After school I didn't know what to do with myself. Even though it seemed like i was working all of the time i was still broke. I wanted a change so accepted the offer to live with my girlfriend in downtown Madison. I didn't have much of a job for a while...i certainly tried but had little luck. It was hot in our apartment so i often went to a neighboring coffee shop and painted with my friend Tigger (the managers son)a 4 and a half year old kid who liked the color blue and could tell me the gas mileage of any car on the market (city and highway miles).
Main Street Intersection Steven's Point 2005-06
Senior year II. I lived i a nice little apartment with one of my best buds in the world Steve and Sarah and a kitty named spatula This was a wonderful year despite the confusion that came with graduating and, well, life in general. I'm glad i have good friend's like Steve to help me sort out that confusion. My art might be an expression of that confusion.
